Task:

Demolition of a pipe bridge weighing 1000 tons in 60 meters height - during ongoing power plant operation.

Execution:

From 2014 on, Vattenfall wants to produce electrical power and heat from natural gas in the gas and steam turbine power station at the Ostpreußendamm. This results in 15 per cent less emission of CO2 (carbon dioxide).
According to the planning, the whole new building is supposed to produce 230 MW of heat and 300 MW of electrical energy – which makes it way more efficient than the existing power station.
After a parallel operation of 2 years, the present power station is to be completely demolished, except two cooling towers.
Within the planning, power station sections which are no longer needed should be dismantled – as part of our concept, the ambitious timetable could be realized.
During the preparation, two cooling water lines with 1.5 meters diameter each, running across the crane location, had to be overbuilt and prepared for the resulting ground pressure.
By using our 1,250-tons crawler crane (CC6800), it was possible to separate the pipe bridge at easily accessible points without using a costly protection framework.
Afterwards the parts were set aside outside the demolition area for scrapping.
