Accurate transportation of a 390 t gas turbine

Raise the gas turbine in the assembly hall to 1.6 m including securing it at this height for packaging work under the turbine. Transport from the assembly hall to the loading crane.

The spectacular transport of a gas turbine with a weight of around 390 t developed and supplied by Siemens took place in Hamburg. The client for this operation was the company EPS Este Project Service GmbH, which is based at the Pella Sietas shipyard in the port of Hamburg. In the assembly hall of the yard area, a lifting frame was built especially for the application, which made it possible to raise the frame with the gas turbine by means of 4 x 200 t strand jacks to 1.6 m. A total of four so-called elephant feet were placed under the frame in order to guarantee the packers safe access for overseas packaging from below.

The Scheuerle SPMT with its two 12 axles moved under the frame to take over the load that had previously been on the elephant feet.

The gantry crane that was used was already loaded from 300 t to 450 t. In order to protect the gas turbine and ensure even lifting, the crane from Schmidbauer was equipped with modular spreaders. The unknown floor load of the old shipyard made the operation even more difficult.

The turbine had to be transported out of the hall precise to the centimeter. It was only thanks to the years of experience of the drivers and the multi-directional steering of the SPMT that the transport from the Pella Sietas shipyard to the large gantry crane was possible. Thanks to a lot of experience, accuracy and perfect maneuvering with the SPMT, the factory hall was nevertheless successfully exited in a 90 degree curve.
