Equipped for offshore activities with SPMTs

With SPMTs Schmidbauer takes over the handling of wind turbine components for the offshore wind farm Merkur at OBT

Over the past decade, Schmidbauer has upgraded both its fleet and service to meet the requirements of the offshore and wind energy industries, thus making a name for itself as a high-performance logistics partner in the industry. Just last year the company invested in the latest generation of SPMTs (Self-Propelled Modular Transporters) from Scheuerle.
Schmidbauer is currently operating the SPMTs at the Orange Blue Terminal in Eemshaven, Netherlands, among others. From this feeder port, the components for the construction of the Merkur offshore wind farm are shipped to the North Sea. Approximately 45 km north of the island of Borkum, 66 wind turbines of the GE type "Haliade 150" are currently being built there whose regular operating capacity should reach approx. 1750 GWh per year.

Since the beginning of 2017, Schmidbauer has been active at this terminal for the business partner Buss Offshore Solutions. The deployment is expected to continue until October 2018. Our heavy-duty experts are responsible for handling the WTG (wind turbine) components at the terminal: A 48 axle SPMT G4 and 2 x 8.40 m spacers transport the gigantic tower segments for pre-assembly to the interim storage facility, where they are vertically pre-assembled on foundations with the help of the LR 11350 and LR 1600/2 crawler cranes. From there they are then taken over by the installation vessel.
In addition, Schmidbauer also transports the nacelles weighing approx. 350 tons, rotor blades up to 75 meters long and other tower segments onto the installation ships.

Already in 2016, the traditional company from Munich convinced with its efficiency by the heavy transport of the worldwide heaviest monopiles of the Veja Mate project, weighing 1,300 tons. The crane and heavy-duty expert is increasingly establishing itself on an international level and is also aligning its vehicle fleet accordingly.
