Heavy duty logistics at the worldwide largest offshore wind farm Walney Extension

Handling of the complete heavy load logistics in the feeder port of the offshore wind farm.

According to the operator Dong Energy, the Walney Extension Project, the world's largest offshore wind farm at least in terms of the megawatt capacity produced by the farm, is currently being built on an area of approximately 145 kmĀ². A total of 87 wind turbines are being erected in the Irish Sea, which will have a total output of approximately 650 MW.

The components are stored in the feeder port of the harbor of Belfast and from November 2016 to mid-2017 brought from there to the construction site in the sea by tugboats or installation ships. The handling of the entire heavy load logistics in this feeder port is part of our scope. Transition pieces (TPs) up to 600 tons and all monopiles (MPs) up to 1,030 tons are moved by our Liebherr LR 11350 and LR 1350 crawler cranes. In addition, 56 axle lines of SPMTs are on site to move the MPs with a diameter of 8.40 meter and over 80 meter in length in the port.
