The largest ISO glass pane in the world

Lifting in four panes of glass with a size of almost 3.50 x 20 m for the new WAGNER Design Lab.

It was an effort of superlatives: the installation of an oversized glass facade for the new design lab of the seating furniture manufacturer WAGNER. Schmidbauer was commissioned by BSG CONSULT GMBH from Bobingen to lift the four panes of glass which were 3.04 by 19.21 m in size. The area of the triple insulating glass thus comprised two areas of 117 square meters of glass with only one joint. The facade reaches an impressive total size of 234 square meters, thus the largest shop window in the world to date.

During the three-day event, extreme precision and a great deal of sensitivity were required. A 220 t  mobile crane and a Modulift 50 with a length of 11 meters were used to lift the approximately five and a half ton glasses into the right place – and with great success! The procedure went flawlessly and the WAGNER Design Lab has already won the German Design Award 2020 with its oversized structure and is registered for the Guinness Book of Records.

The partners for this extraordinary event were the glass refiner Sedak from Gersthofen, global technology and innovation leader for large-format insulating and safety glass, and the Augsburg architect Titus Wagner.
